What this site counts
In short: no cookies, no ads, no outside trackers. The site keeps simple totals (how many people visited, where from, which buttons they pressed) so the author can see whether anyone is reading. Nothing kept can identify you.
What is counted
- Page visits, with the site that sent you (for example Google or Facebook) or the tag in the link you followed.
- Approximate location: country and state or region, worked out by our host, Cloudflare, from your internet address. The address itself is not stored.
- Device type, browser and operating system (for example “Phone · Safari · iOS”).
- A few actions on the page: pressing an Amazon button, playing the video and how much of it you watch, clicking the author's email link, and how far down the page you scroll.
How people are counted without tracking them
To count people rather than page loads, your internet address and browser type are mixed with a random value that changes every day and turned into a scrambled code. That code is only used to avoid counting you twice on the same day. Codes and the random values are deleted after a day, so visits on different days can't be connected, and the code can't be turned back into your address.
What is kept, and for how long
- Totals (per day, per source, per country and so on) are kept as plain numbers.
- A list of recent visits, holding the time, page, approximate location, source and device type with no address or code, is kept for 48 hours and then deleted.
- Nothing is sold or shared, and no one but the author and the site's administrator can see the numbers.
Other services
- The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which handles every request and keeps its own short-term logs for security.
- Fonts load from Google Fonts, so Google receives your internet address when the page loads.
- The buttons go to Amazon. Once you're there, Amazon's privacy policy applies.
